Making your Art Dreams a Reality

Petaluma Arts Association Press Release – For August 2012
For immediate release:
Making your Art Dreams a Reality
On Tuesday, August 7, from 7:30 to 8:30 PM, at the monthly meeting of the Petaluma Arts Association, meet Artist and Personal Coach, Peggy Sebera, who will lead an interactive workshop on “Making your Art Dreams a Reality”.
Peggy Sebera has worked as a personal and professional coach for 20 years. She began painting, quite by chance, about 9 years ago when she attended her first painting workshop in France. Describing her very first painting she says, "I stumbled, not knowing a thing about painting”.
Peggy will share some of the inspiration and practices that have made it possible for her to focus on her passion for art and exceed her wildest dreams to become a successful artist in Sonoma County. She will share with us techniques for tapping into your intuition and apply coaching skills to develop and promote your own art. As a coach, she shares this process with others who want to take their art (or other passion) to a new level.
This will be a working session. If you can, please bring a journal to write in. You will have the opportunity to learn practices, which will help you to focus on your own art dreams and goals.
Peggy is a juried member of the Sonoma County ARTrails Open Studio Tour. She has an upcoming one-person show at Dolphin Gallery in Gualala, CA. She has a master's degree in Psychology and is a certified coach. See her art work at www.peggysebera.com
The Petaluma Arts Association Meetings are held the first Tuesday of each Month at the Petaluma Art Center on the corner of Lakeville and Washington in the Red Building in the classroom. Doors open at 6 for visiting and fellowship and setup
Business meeting from 6:30 to 7:15 followed by coffee break. Program from 7:30 to 8:30 The public and potential members are always welcome!

SERVING FAMILIES. COUNSELING
PPSC COOPERATIVE PARENTING & DIVORCE
New Programs Start in July call PPSC for more information 765-8488
Family relationships do not disappear when a marriage ends in divorce. For
the sake of their children, divorced parents must continue to communicate
with their former spouses in matters of child-rearing. The ability of
parents to interact with each other greatly affects the child's adjustment
to divorce. Unrelenting parental conflict is the single most common cause of
poor adjustment in children following a divorce.
Cooperative Parenting and Divorce is a psychoeducational program designed to
improve the quality of the parental relationship in situations of divorce.
The overall emphasis of Cooperative Parenting and Divorce is to offer
children the opportunity to grow in a home environment free from being
caught in the middle of parental conflict.
Cooperative Parenting and Divorce is the most extensive, informed and
interactive resource to date examining the complex realities of divorce.
This thoughtful and practical program can be implemented in eight sessions
lasting 2 hours each.
Cooperative Parenting and Divorce benefits children by:
* Reducing the child's symptoms of stress as parental conflict decreases
* Diminishing the child's sense of loyalty binds.
* Allowing the child to love both parents
* Creating a more relaxed home atmosphere, allowing the child to adjust
more effectively
* Teaching effective communication and conflict-resolution skills as
modeled by their parents
* Increasing the likelihood of keeping two active parents in the child's
life
PPSC's Counseling Department is dedicated to providing high quality mental
health services to all of southern Sonoma County. We offer a sliding fee

Looking high and low for a new Home Sweet Home!

|
Hi there! My name is Katherine Klemin and I am a long time Sonoma County
resident.
I'm looking for a granny unit or cottage preferably in the Santa Rosa or
Windsor area to rent the end of July. I have very little financial
resources to work with so am looking for a HUGE miracle.
mir•a•cle - an extraordinary event made possible by divine intervention in
human affairs.
I'm looking for a landlord who is more interested in a good tenant than
the rent money. I'm a quiet, clean, respectful, single woman in my late
50's.
I'm working on a business called Sweetlaughter which specializes in "fun
stuff for cancer patients". Sweetlaughter was started a few years after my
own cancer treatment ended in 2003.
I'm also looking for employment as an Interior Design or Home Staging
assistant.
I've attached a photo taken in 2004 - I was the American Cancer Society's
North Bay Poster Girl for the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer
Campaign.
Thank you in advance for your time and attention.
Gratefully,
Katherine Klemin

Daily Acts Workshop: Earthen Sculpting Cob Garden Seats and Benches

|
The Cavanagh Center, on the corner of 8th and G Street, Petaluma
Join Janine Björnson to discover natural building with cob. Cob is a durable, non-toxic, locally available mixture of clay, sand, straw, water and earth. Some of the world's oldest structures are constructed from cob, yet if allowed to breakdown though exposure to the elements cob would completely return to the earth from where it came. When wet the pliable material lends itself to creative shapes to form-fit any location. Learn about input material selection, foundations, mixing, building and upkeep through the hands-on construction of a community bench at the Cavanagh Center food forest. We’ll return in September with our Earthen Plaster and Sealant workshop to seal our creations (package deal for both workshops available). Cob building is community building! No prior experience required.

The 3 Myths That are Causing Your Back Pain

|
Are you tired of having back or joint pain? You can learn how to be free of pain! Learning what is the underlying cause of your pain will enable you to make changes that eliminate your pain. Almost everyone in highly industrialized countries has adopted a modern posture that is misaligned and so pervasive we can't even see it. Many treatments don't address the underlying cause of pain.
Learning a set of simple, specific guidelines can bring you relief from pain anytime, anywhere. The same guidelines that take away your pain also straighten your spine.
Come to a 2 hour Balance Method workshop - "The 3 Myths That are Causing Your Back Pain". Mention where you heard about this for your complimentary ticket!
IN PETALUMA: Wednesday, August 15 from 9:30-11:30 am.
(Also offered in Berkeley September 22)
RESERVATIONS ARE REQUIRED. Seating is limited. To register, call 707-658-2599 or visitwww.sonomabodybalance.com
Why do people in some countries have no back pain? 80% of the population in the United States suffers from back pain, compared to only 5% in many other countries, such as Portugal and Greece. These healthy people move slightly differently than we do. The teaching of the Balance Center is based on more than 35 years of research on these healthy populations. When you stand, bend, sit, walk, and sleep as these people do, your pain can be significantly reduced or eliminated.
SIX WAYS THIS APPROACH IS UNIQUE:
-Balance is based on studying healthy people
-No special devices, special equipment or special chairs are needed
-No exercises or radical positions are required
-Balance dramatically improves your posture
-You use this information immediately in your car, at work, even at the

-A slight shift in position brings relief
WHAT DO PEOPLE SAY ABOUT THE RESULTS OF THE BALANCE METHOD?
“For 17 years I spent thousands of dollars for medical treatment and loss of work time to find a solution to relieve lower back pain due to an auto accident. I sought treatment using acupuncture, acupressure, massage therapy, osteopathic and more. These treatments were helpful for a short time, but it did not teach me the proper body mechanics for lifelong relief. Surgery and continuous use of drugs was not a viable option.
The classes I took from Dana at Sonoma Body Balance were my saving grace. I learned how to properly sit, sleep, walk, drive, bend, lift, etc. I have not experienced any back pain since completing the classes.”
- Wayland Lew
“I have successfully used Balance Center instructions as part of a comprehensive treatment program for my patients with painful spinal conditions.”
- William Firtch, M.D.
"This class was a revelation for me. It increased my awareness of being out of Balance and I learned simple changes I can make to become more balanced and pain free. It was powerful learning what I can do on a daily basis to avoid pain. Dana taught us simple techniques to use everyday to correct bad posture and live pain free. It’s given me hope and has been a life changing experience that has put me back in control ."
- Julie Shapiro, Oakland, CA
"Before I took the Balance class, I experienced chronic neck, low back, hip, and gluteal tension, in spite of the fact that I received weekly chiropractic adjustments. While taking the class, my tension decreased significantly. The tools I learned in the class also enabled me to teach basic sitting skills to patients which helped eliminate a major cause of recurring back pain for many of them."
-Jay Bunker, Chiropractor
Taught by Dana Davis, MA, Senior Certified Instructor by the Balance Center in Palo Alto and Certified Yoga Teacher. Class includes slides, practice sitting and bending in Balance, anatomy and individual hands-on guidance. Enrollment is limited. For more information, visit www.sonomabodybalance.com. Hello Fellow Songwriters

Hello Fellow Songwriters,
I am pleased to announce that Jay Gottlieb will be joining me as co-host of the Petaluma chapter of the West Coast Songwriters. WCS holds a monthly song competition held at Aqus Cafe on H St in Petaluma on the 3rd Wednesday of each month, beginning in October.
Jay and I have been friends for over a year. We both had the shared experience of being
called overtly sentimental. We also have over 10 wins between us at WCS event's this year.(He has more best song titles I have more performance titles. But who keeps track?) We both love WCS and we want to keep the show going in Petaluma.
We also want to publicly acknowledge and thank Jan White, Bobby Jo Valentine, and others that have kept the show going over the years. We hope to continue the grand tradition of the 3rd wed of the month song competition at Aqus.
To Mark and Phoebe who
operate Aqus, thanks for providing a wonderful venue, great food and a warm, friendly atmosphere for our night of original music. We could not do it without you.
Although the official competition for 2012 is over, Jay & I wish to keep the music-playing/songwriting thing going for 1 more month in some way. So, this month we will hold a friendly competition at Aqus Cafe on Wednesday, August 15th with the best song of the month winning two tickets to the West Coast Songwriters Grand Finals Aug 19 at Freight and Salvage in Berkeley.
